Hussey condemns Strabane shooting
05 April 2012
West Tyrone MLA Ross Hussey has condemned the shooting incident which took place in Strabane’s Ballycolman estate on Tuesday night in which a man was shot on the leg in front of his family.
Mr Hussey, who represents the Ulster Unionist Party on the Policing Board, said:
“I unreservedly condemn this attack in the Ballycolman estate. There is absolutely nothing which can justify shooting anyone, and there is something especially cowardly about a group of men entering a house containing a woman and a child, and then shooting a man in the leg. This type of activity was part of Northern Ireland’s past, and the people of Strabane and the rest of West Tyrone want it left there. It is extremely important that the Police catch the people responsible. I would appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Carlton Drive area of the Ballycolman estate around half past ten on Tuesday evening, or who can assist the Police in any way, to please come forward at once and help the Police to catch those responsible.”
