Four students from Omagh Academy’s 6th form politics class were recently given the opportunity to meet with the Secretary of State the Rt Hon Owen Paterson MP following work experience with Ross Hussey MLA and Tom Elliott MLA of the Ulster Unionist Party. Chloe Hilliard and David Henderson spent three days shadowing Tom Elliott whilst Jude Beattie and Neil MacLaine shadowed Ross Hussey for 2 days following which they shadowed Councillor Allan Rainey and Councillor Derek Hussey in Omagh and Strabane Councils.  Mr Hussey said ‘during the visit I had promised to try and arrange a visit with the Secretary of State and Owen Paterson obliged with a visit arranged for Monday past. The students certainly were well briefed for their visit and had prepared several questions which they put to him. I certainly enjoyed the experience of working with the students from Omagh Academy which I attended many years ago and I know Tom Elliott also enjoys the opportunity of working with students to let them get an insight into the day to day activities of local politicians.
